The early stage of a painting has got to be the most critical. At this point possibilities are endless. Spill a wash here, drip some paint there, and watch a seemingly random mess mature into a proper composition.

Now it is time to respond, respond and respond.

Interspecific Competition - 7.25" x 8" acrylic and charcoal on rigid insulation foam.

I've been told there is a "narrative" here. An explanation of the title can be found here.

Now for my wonderful experiment in joining a duck's body to a rabbit's head - 12" x 9" acrylic and charcoal on rigid insulation foam.

My latest work, inspired, somewhat by the previous. The green shapes have been dubbed "pods" by my good friend Phillip Mellen of Ahtcast. I ran with the pod theme and referenced one of my favorite 80's B movies, The Pod People. The title is a quote directly from a 1991 screening of the film on Mystery Science Theater. I think it fits as this painting was most definitely an experiment!

Hyaline Cartilage - 24"x23" acrylic on rigid insulation foam.

Hyaline cartilage is a type of cartilage found on many joint surfaces. It is pearly bluish in color with firm consistency and has a considerable amount of collagen. It contains no nerves or blood vessels, and its structure is relatively simple.

This is the first in a series of connective tissue paintings. Influenced by images of human tissue in microscopic scale. The intention here is not to render said images with any accuracy but instead to harness naturally occurring, organic compositions and color pallets.
